What to wear with a camel hair blazer? (Student)

Hey, everybody! I've been lurking AAAC for a while, but now I'm finally posting.

Anyways, I'm 18 and a college student with a youthfully preppy/Ivy wardrobe (lots of Gant Rugger/RL Custom-Fit/BB ESF OCBDs, Rugby university fit chinos, penny and driving loafers, 3" critter/repp ties, etc.). Barring any unforeseen developments, I should be working in sales at my local BB this summer, so I've been trying to find new sport coats and suits to wear to work.

I was lucky enough to find a Polo Blue Label (unsure of whether or not it was made in Italy, though) camel hair blazer in mint condition (picture here) for disgustingly cheap. Now I just need to find what to wear with it... any suggestions? Thanks!

Dark brown slacks, Argyle socks, penny loafers, an OCBD the color of that sweater and a dark rep tie.
Half fashion plate, half slob, but aspiring to 'half country squire, half Fl?neur'

Hi, I'm in college too. For this blazer, I personally suggest pairing with black, semi-formal trousers or slack, you can where a sweater under the blazer like the picture you just showed, but you can also wear a sportshirt. To make it more fancy, you can tuck a silk scarf between the shirt and the blazer

Plus, I wondered do you wear sportcoat and dress shoes to class? As a college student in LA, I seldomly see ppl dress like this, only one time, I spotted an italian guy wear a navy blazer and khaki chino with a polka dot scarf tucked under blazer. I wanted to do this too, but it makes me not "fit" into the majority population here lol

I wear a tie and jacket for my finals (look good, feel good, do good kinda thing), but otherwise I'm usually pretty casually attired. Most days it's an OCBD with jeans (normally J.Crew vintage slim or Levi's) or chinos; I wear Bean Boots in the late fall and winter almost daily, with my beat-to-hell Cole Haan driving loafers and penny loafers, Clarks desert boots, and Sebago Docksides doing the rest of the work. I'll wear trim pastel shorts when it's warmer, cardigans and crewneck sweaters over button-downs when it's chillier.

I'd venture to say that I'm probably on the better-dressed end of the campus spectrum, since most kids'll rock sweats and tees, but I think the female population appreciates a well-dressed--not overdressed, mind you--young man.

When I was in uni, I was told by a fellow who'd been there longer than I that I looked like I took myself too seriously.

Seriously? Just because I'd wear a coat and tie to class, or a turtleneck/sports coat and khakis. People would see me in a golf shirt and wonder what was going on.

If you want to be on the upper spectrum of the campus when it comes to sartorial aptitude, I think you're on the right path with an unconventional blazer. Unlike most of us, generally the first purchase a college student makes is a black suit. Followed by, a grey or tan suit. The average college student has about three "dress" shirts and two of them are short sleeved. I would go to Kappa Sigma formals and some of the brothers didn't know how to tie a tie, or still had the sleeve label on their jacket.

I was fortunate enough to live at home during my university undergrad. I had plenty of closet space, and you're right, a girl will appreciate somebody who puts on a tie, a jacket and decent shoes. After all, lots of girls spend half an hour in front of the mirror, making sure they look right.

In college I wore tee shirts, jeans and, if it was cool, a Pendleton shirt. I did have one suit to take dates out in or to wear under the choir robes and I believe . . . yes, I had a muted grey plaid sport coat that came in handy for chamber choir concerts. I didn't really have the money/interest/need for much beyond that for years.

Do it. I went to a very "preppy" school (and graduated not long ago at all), and it wasn't uncommon in the least. Navy chinos were a thing to wear with camel hair, as were gray flannels. In fact, mid-gray flannels, white ocbd, and camel hair coat was probably only second to the khakis-ocbd-navy blazer combo when it came time for greek formal season. At the nicer bars, it also wasn't uncommon to see a slim camel coat paired with a well-worn ocbd and Levi's in a medium wash.

As for the scarf: don't do it. In college, a man can get away with a scarf in a limited number of circumstances. Those circumstances are: well below freezing temps (wool or cashmere scarf), greek cocktail parties (silk scarf, under blazer, and significant preparation for the odd looks from men and novelty attention from girls ["OHMAHGAWD! That's sooo funny! You look so posh! That's suuuper cute, is that your dad's?!"] you will get).
