On a suit jacket, how far should the sleeve buttons start from the edge of the sleeve? I have seen anywhere from 0.5 inches to about 2 inches or so. Personally, my preference is on the shorter side (maybe 1 inch), but wanted to see if there is any "rule" on this. In case it is relevant, they would be working button holes. Thanks.

With working, I suggest a shorter distance to prevent the cuff flaring open when buttoned. Of course, in my opinion (I don't know whether there is a rule/standard or not), I don't think it should matter between working/non-working.
